With the conclusion of Training Camp we are ready to begin traveling unexplored territory. We're heading for Montana, but that's a long way off!
First, a couple of nights in Prineville, OR to get caught up and restocked. We frequent a pretty nice RV park there that's operated by Crook County. It's right next to the fairgrounds, across the street from a huge open area that lies along the river. Though the campground/RV park is a bit tight as far as the spaces go, all that open land around it makes it perfect for exercising the dogs, or just going for a walk. We topped off our stay with a pretty good Mexican dinner at the Ranchero, on NW 3rd.
From there, north to Plymouth, WA, and a Corp of Engineers campground on the Columbia. From there it was a short hop over the another Corp park, Riley Creek, on the Pend Oreille River.
We stopped for lunch at a marina area along the Columbia and watched a tug move a barge up the river.
The whole operation was so close to us, it was fascinating to watch the process of docking the barge, and then the tug backing out and repositioning for the trip back down the river.
There is so much agriculture along the Columbia that these barges run frequently, docking at both the Oregon and the Washington sides.
July 20
Riley Creek Campground, on the Pend Oreille River is a really nice campground, with beautiful wildflowers and nice swimming beaches for the kids. There were plenty of trails for the puppies, and they were happy with the shallow areas of the lake where they could cool off their toes.
July 21 - We left fairly early, heading for Bonners Ferry, ID, where I visited A Little Comfort Quilting and picked up a license plate and a couple of projects (just what I needed!) I'm looking forward to starting the little cloth book "Quite Bunny and Noisy Puppy" so I can use it with the boys over the winter.
We also stopped by North 40 Outfitters, a fantastic ranch/hardware/outdoor store a fellow camper recommended for dog tack. Watch is now sporting a new bright red walking harness. Pretty cool!
Yeah! We made it to Montana! Home for the night, Logan State Park.
Two nights here. Our site has a nice view of the lake, and enough room for the dogs to stretch. there aren't a lot of trails, so we get our exercise walking the loop down to the boat dock and through the other parts of the campground.
Walking around the campground and chatting with folks we met the artist Allen Jimmerson. His paintings of the local scenery and wildlife are beautiful, full of life and color. His website is here.
I washed all the trailer windows, which of course made it rain, but it cleared up the next day and was beautiful again.
Tomorrow we'll be in Glacier National Park!
